BOOK BAGS!!!
The book bags are coming home again today! Please read the book with your child each night. It's important to reread books again and again. After reading the story several times, do the activity listed on the instruction sheet. The kinders have the directions on the yellow sheet and first graders have directions on the white sheet. On Wednesday night have your child put the journal, the book, and the instructions back into the bag so that it is ready to come back to school on Thursday morning. It is very important to the success of our program that book bags are returned each Thursday morning.
There will be no homework folders on Fridays due to the book bags.
Review of the week:
Language Arts:
We continued our new handwriting program--Hand Writing Without Tears. We are also working on holding our pencil correctly and starting letters/numbers at the top. We've reviewed the following concepts:
Math:
We enjoyed our Math Investigations this week. Kids showed excellent teamwork by sorting, tallying, and graphing our class favorites. We are very proud of our students! They also demonstrated their knowledge by making graphs independently using stickers and fruit loops. Please continue to work with your child at home and find different ways we use charts and graphs. Next week, we will start our new strand: number sense.

Social Studies:
We started a project called, "Me in the World" this week. We focused on how we are a small part of the world. We start being part of our home, then our school community, which is a small part of our city, extending to our state. Our state, California, is a part of our country, the United States, which is a small part of the world!
We also talked about what we do at home or at school could affect the larger community. That means we should always be aware of our choices and actions, so that we are a good member of the community.
Science:
Apples, apples, apples! We learned the different parts of an apple. Students learned how to label a scientific drawing, and then assemble an apple diagram. We also read a couple of apple poems to add to our Personal Reader Binder.
